#15 A song that moved me

Name: Rose Castillon

-A Song That Moved Me-

The song that emotionally touched me is "Princess Doesn't Cry" by Aviva. It is a love-sad song of a heartbroken girl. This also motivated me to become more confident in myself and I needed to be strong. I often listen to this music when I feel down and stressed. Usually, I listen to the song at night time and keep overthinking, what to do in my life and how can I handle this. This song tells me that even when life goes hard we still need to move forward and be brave.

Lyrics Princess Doesn't Cry:

Boys, they're handsome and strong

But always the first to tell me I'm wrong

Boys try to tame me, I know

They tell me I'm weird and won't let it go

No, I'm fine, I'm lying on the floor again

Cracked door, I always wanna let you in

Even after all of this shit, I'm resilient

'Cause a princess doesn't cry (no-oh)

A princess doesn't cry (no-oh, oh)

Over monsters in the night

Don't waste our precious time

On boys with pretty eyes

A princess doesn't cry (no-oh)

A princess doesn't cry (no-oh, oh)

Burning like a fire

you feel it all inside

But wipe your teary eyes

'Cause princesses don't cry

Don't cry, don't cry oh

Don't cry

Don't cry, oh

Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, oh

'Cause princesses don't cry

Girls, so pretty and poised

And soft to the touch

But God made me rough

Girls, so heavy the crown

They carry it tall

But it's weighing me down

No, I'm fine

I'm lying on the floor again

Cracked door

You're only going to let them in once

And you won't come undone

'Cause a princess doesn't cry (no-oh)

A princess doesn't cry (no-oh, oh)

Over monsters in the night

Don't waste our precious time

On boys with pretty eyes

A princess doesn't cry (no-oh)

A princess doesn't cry (no-oh, oh)

Burning like a fire

you feel it all inside

But wipe your teary eyes

'Cause princesses don't cry

Don't cry, don't cry oh

Don't cry

Don't cry, oh

Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, oh

'Cause princesses don't cry

#10 Unit Reflection 2

What I've learned

Pop culture is about our everyday interactions, needs, and desires. I also learned about the differences between Popular and Culture.  Popular is about something that is popular and it remains widespread, and culture is about the body of the beliefs behaviors, values, and thoughts that influence us every day. Pop culture has two roles in determining future, fads and trends. Fads are about popularity that goes only for a very short time and trends are about popularity that continues to be popular.

In our class, we chose our trailblazer's TED talk speakers. I chose Alyssa-Amor Gibbons, she is an architect in Barbados and she focuses on resilient design and sustainability. She was influenced by her childhood when she had an experience of typhoon hurricanes since she was a child. She works with small island states to adapt their approaches to architecture and wants her buildings to help people after the hurricane storm passes, too.

In my star presentation, I chose Bella Poarch. She is a Philippine-American social media personality, singer, and United States Navy. I chose her because she has an angelic voice and her songs inspire me the most and make me more confident of myself. She is a brave girl who overcomes her past life trauma and she doesn't give up on her dreams as a singer. She became a star when she lip-synced "M to the B" a rap song by Millie B. Making her the highest-paid TikToker. Then with the help of other popstar singers, she made her first song "Build a Bitch" on May 14, 2021.

In our Pop team project, we presented 70s,80's, 90's, and 2020s through songs, shows, movies, products, events, and a person. Based on our presentation I learned about Bill Clinton, who was the 42nd president of the United States. He was the first-ever presidential email and promoted the importance of the Internet, for education and business. I also learned about the 2 popular songs The Wonderwall and Creep, they are both good songs and it is about rock bands. Juan presented the 2 TV shows SpongeBob and F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Spongebob debuted on Nickelodeon in 1999 and was an American animated comedy media. It was one of my favorite TV shows when I was a kid it brings back my childhood. F.R.I.E.N.D.S is a TV show about a group of six friends who live in New York City. and it was the biggest show of all time back in the 1990's.

(My Aha Moment)

My aha moment! is about the TED talk presentation of my classmate, she talks about Melanie Perkins who created the tool canva. Since I've been using Canva a lot now, I never expected that I already knew who made the Canva tool.

(I didn't know that)

I didn't know that pop culture can be so important in our lives. This can help us know more about ourselves from different cultures.

#8 Popculture Studies

                                                                                    Pop culture

Pop culture is various forms of popular culture, including music, film, television, advertising, toys, fashion, sports, magazines, and comic books. This focuses on race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, and censorship. Pop culture works to bring social justice critiques to mass media. It is where the pedagogy is when learning " Mass culture it is not just a space of amusement, but also a space where social values are formed and political views are shaped. There are four main topics of popular culture analysis. production analysis, textual analysis, textual analysis, audience analysis, and historical analysis.

#7 Team Project Essay

In our team project presentation, we discussed popularity in the 1990s. It is about events, TV shows, music, movies, objects, and a person. I presented the 2 movies and 1 popular person.

I've learned about Bill Clinton that he was the 42nd president of The United States from 1993-2001. He was also the first presidential email and promoted the importance of the Internet for education and business.

I also discussed the 2 movies, The Titanic and Jurassic Park. This was an amazing movie specially the Titanic. It is about the love story of a two-couple Jack and Rose and presented by Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie Titanic is an American disaster film from 1997 and it was based on accounts of the sinking of Titanic in 1912.

The Jurassic Park is an American science action film in 1993. This was set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar. This is an amazing and scary movie. Everything is about dinosaurs and survival. I learned that the genetic scientists were the ones who created wildlife-extinct dinosaurs.

#5 Pop Star

Denarie Bautista Taylor, Born February 8,1997 professionally known as Bella Poarch.
She is a Philippine-born American social media personality, a singer, and a United States Navy veteran.
She created the most liked video on TikTok, in which she lip-syncs to the song "M to the B" by rapper
Millie B. She is the most followed TikTok contributor in the Philippines.

On May 14,2021 she released her first song "Build a Bitch" which stated that the song was inspired by her experiences with being bullied as a child. She wanted her first song to have a good meaning and to help a lot of people to be more confident about themselves. On August 12,2022 she released her extended play "Doll" including her other single songs "Inferno", "Villain", "No Man's Land", and "Living Hell". Then there's the newly released song "Crush" on September 15,2023.

Bella's achievements extend beyond her social media and music ventures. She also made it to the Forbes 30 under 30 list in 2022, ranking as the highest paid Tiktoker exceeding 92 million, making her TikTok's third most-followed star and top Asian American influencer in the world.

Bella Poarch opens up about her abusive stepdad and traumatic childhood and how it affected her later in life. During her interview on the H3 podcast, the musician opened up about her heartbreaking childhood growing up on a farm in the Philippines.

I chose Bella Poarch because she inspires me a lot and other people. Her song has true deep meanings, and she has an angelic voice. And I support her so much as the same nationality as her, Filipina. She is also a Talented and brave person she overcame her past life trauma and joined the United States Navy and now she has a better life. The title "Living Hell" was my favorite song that she wrote, I kept singing it over and over again on how good the song it is.

"LOOM BRACELETS"

Loom Bracelets are my favorite toy I've been doing before as a kid in the 2010s.
They are very colorful and easy to make, you can create different designs and patterns in making
a bracelet. There are also tools that you can use to make a loom bracelet. I used to make these at school and sell them to other students, a lot of students bought my bracelet. I enjoyed my loom bracelet making in my childhood memories.

"PLASTIC BALLONS"

Another one of my favorite toys was plastic balloons. It is so fun to play with, where
you can create a ginormous clear balloon with your friends. This is like a sticky glue that you put on the stick and blow it out to create a clear balloon and make it bigger. You can also create some different shapes and you can also stick them together to create different figures.

#3 U1 Reflection

                                                                    "What I've Learned"

I learned about cultural identity and how to specify them, based on different kinds

of culture. For example, is culture shock. This is about emotional and mental reactions, a

feeling of being judged, loneliness, and anxiety.

We also discussed the cultural iceberg model. This compares culture to an iceberg, which

has visible parts on the water's surface and invisible parts underwater. This means that we

only see a few aspects of our culture at the top of the iceberg and there are actually more

things that people haven't discovered yet which is the bottom of the iceberg.  I also learned a

lot about my classmates's cultural identity, about Venezuela. It has a lot of delicious food in

Venezuela, one example is Avepa. They also have an amazing colorful festival, where people

dance along with the music and wear colorful costumes. I also learned about the culture in

China. They absolutely love tea so much, it is their traditional drink. They also have a panda

which symbolizes them as luck and peace. Lastly, we also did a group activity about the

commonalities that we talk about in sports. For example, me and my three classmates play

ping pong and watch NBA.
